Keratosis pilaris
Keratosis pilaris, also known as anservous skin or ‘chicken skin’, is characterised by small, rough-to-touch red papules (bumps) that lie right next to the hair follicles. We see this skin condition mainly on the outside of the upper arms and legs.
Keratosis pilaris is caused by an overproduction of keratin (the protein your nails and hair are made of). It can occur at any age, but young people and people with dry, allergy-prone skin are particularly affected.
