What does the treatment involve?

Pigment laser treatment

At Huidzorg West, pigmentation spots are treated with the Alexandrite laser and/or Intense pulsed light (IPL). Pigmentation marks, such as age spots, sun spots, cafe-au-lait colouration or annoying freckles are safely and effectively removed, and your skin can be smooth again. The Nordlys Ellipse IPL or the Gentle Max Pro, alexandrite laser are used. For deeper pigmentation lesions, such as melasma (mask of pregnancy), we use the Nordlys Fraxx Erbium Glass laser.During the initial consultation, we will discuss your symptoms and assess your skin. Together we come up with a tailor-made treatment plan.

Pigment laser treatment

The Alexandrite laser gives a pulse with the right wavelength, which is absorbed by the pigment present. The pigment is heated to such an extent that the body will break it down. After the treatment, the body will eliminate the treated pigment itself.

As a sensation, warmth can be experienced, but the pulses do not last long. Only the pigment mark is treated, the ‘healthy’ skin is not treated and remains intact.

On average, 1 to 3 treatments are necessary for a desired result, while in some cases more treatments are required. Various factors influence the end result, such as the depth of the pigment, the location, the method of formation, the shape, intensity of colour, skin type and sun exposure. No guarantee can be given that pigmentation will disappear in every client.

Laser pigment treatments are also known as symptom control. The broken pigment cell cannot be removed, only the disruptive pigmentation colour. As a result, when exposed to sunlight without protection, pigmentation can return.

The skin of your pigment mark may look red and darker, but this response is expected. Usually, that redness disappears within a few hours. A superficial scab can form on the dark discolouration, which heals within 2 weeks. When the scab drops off the skin, the pigmentation is lighter or gone. Do not touch any scabs, as it is important that the skin heals itself.

After the treatment, your skin may be camouflaged with mineral makeup. Huidzorg Delft works with Jane Iredale products. These products are opaque, provide good protection and also have soothing properties.
